JOHN PAUL KESLING b. 1980
Biography

There has always been a simple and romantic approach to Kesling’s work. His images take the common-place and match them with the unknown. Growing up in Kentucky and spending much of his youth outdoors, he has been forever interested in the tangible. A piece of string tied to a branch has a story to it. You can find these kinds of things all over.

After living in Savannah, GA where he received an MFA in painting, Kesling has relocated to Brooklyn, NY and is spending his time making work and looking around. He has no wife and no children. When he owns a dog, he will consider himself grown.

Statement

Invention, collection, ownership, war, religion, sports, language, music, and art-making. All of these things seem to make humans more than what they really are. As fancy animals, we've built the Pyramids, amassed 234 Jose Cansecos, mastered the bassoon and romanticized the Hudson all to impress a girl or boy.
